WHO IS IN THE NETWORK - ACTIVITIES - NEWS - BACK
There are 54 Ethnic Minorities composed of 8 Ethno-linguistic groups scattered in different provinces of Vietnam. Approximately, the total population is numbering about 89,571,130. The Kinh people represents the majority comprise 86.4% of the total population mainly inhabit the Red River Delta, Central Coastal Delta, the Mekong Delta and major cities scattered from north to south of Vietnam. The remaining 53 Ethnic Minority groups represent the minority comprise 13%, the most populated of this are the Tay (1.9%), Thai (1.7%), Muong (1.5%), Khmer (1.4%), Hoa (1.1%), Nung (1.1%), Hmong (1%) numbering around 1 million each and some others (4.1%) in thousands and hundreds scattered over mountainous areas covering 66% of country’s territory and some others in the lowland areas of the country. Documents developed by this network are: National Laws on Indigenous Knowledge and Biodiversity and Rotational Farming.

Our main organisational member in Vietnam is the
Center for Sustainable Development in Mountainous Areas
Most of the Vietnam network members are Indigenous people. And, most of them are from Tay and Thai ethnic groups. Three main focuses are:
1. Traditional Song and dance - include 13 communes in Van Quan district, Lang Son province
2. Traditional Herbalists - 5 districts are Huu Lung, Bac Lang, Binh Gia, Van Quan, Chi Lang in Lang Son province
3. Vietnam Thai indigenous knowledge - 7 Provinces are: Yen Bai, Son La, Dien Bien, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Lai Chau
